Chapter 7 - Web Searches / Browsing

Search engines like Google and Bing track what you search for in order to customize advertisements to your interests. This search data can be obtained by law enforcement for investigative purposes. Likewise, Google and Apple track your activities as you browse with Google Chrome and Apple Safari (almost all other browsers track your activities as well).

It is critical that web searches and browsing remain private. For Android, we recommend "Tor Browser", and for iPhone we recommend "Onion Browser". Both of these browsers use Tor for data routing - Tor is a secure, anonymous, open-source network that is designed to prevent eavesdropping on web traffic. It is important that you do not use Tor Browser to create or access accounts that are tied to you - only use Tor Browser for gathering information.

When searching for information, we recommend going to duckduckgo.com and searching there. DuckDuckGo does not track users' searches to the extent that Google, Apple, and Microsoft do. You can access duckduckgo.com from both Tor and Onion Browser.
